Homesick Tevez on his way home?

Carlos Tevez appears to be on his way out of Eastlands, the big scramble for his services can now begin, with Corinthians, Juventus and Real Madrid all linked, how much of a say will City have in his final destination?

In the past few weeks Carlos Tevez has reiterated his desire to leave Manchester City, it appears that the sole reason he wants to leave is because he would like to be able to spend time with his family, more importantly, his two young daughters. This is fair enough; Tevez has been living in Manchester for four years now, the majority of which has been without his wife and children. It’s been said that they tried to settle, but a combination of the language, culture and the weather made it difficult for Tevez’s close family to adapt. As a result of this, Tevez has decided he needs to be playing football in a country where he can live with his family and be there whilst his two young daughters growing up.

It had been rumoured that Tevez and his family were open to a move to Spain, as the culture and climate wouldn’t be such a dramatic change from what they’re used to in Argentina. This could be a nightmare for City as Tevez could move to the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and maybe even Malaga, if Tevez was to move to one of these clubs, some of their biggest rivals could become stronger, which could come back to haunt City in the future. So, one would think that when Brazilian dark horses Corinthians came in with a very respectable thirty-five million pound bid, that surely City would jump at the offer. It would be an opportunity to give Tevez what he wants, and an opportunity to get him out of Europe so that there’s no chance City will have to worry about Tevez coming back to play against them one day.

Despite the positives of Tevez moving back to Brazil, Manchester City subsequently rejected the offer, it appears that they’re holding out for slightly more, and luckily for Manchester City, Corinthians have come back with an improved forty million pound offer for Tevez. I believe the catalyst for Manchester City’s decision will be down to how much Atletico Madrid want for Sergio Aguero, presuming that City’s reported interest in the player is legitimate. With the new financial rules coming into play soon, City will have to be more constructive in the transfer market; the general rule is that you can’t spend more than the revenue that the club generates. So, if Atletico Madrid want forty million for Aguero, I believe City will settle at forty million for Tevez, so effectively, Aguero hasn’t cost them a penny, and they won’t have to find forty million pounds from somewhere in order to meet the financial fair play rulings, which could affect them in two years time when the new rules fully come into play.

A move to Corinthians would be good for Carlos Tevez and Manchester City, and with them offering such a lucrative deal, Manchester City would be stupid to turn down the offer. If Aguero is available to them, I expect them to go and get him within days of selling Tevez so that they have an immediate replacement for him. Aguero will have big shoes to fill, Tevez was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, if Aguero can get close to Tevez’s level of performance he will have done very well considering it usually takes players a while to adapt to the English game. Tevez, and his bulldog like approach, will be sorely missed by the Premier League; he’s an absolute delight to watch, he may be missed by the fans, but the defenders of the Premier League will breathe a huge sigh of relief when he does eventually leave Manchester City.
